DIRECTORS
Santiago &
Mariana Arriaga
Santiago and Mariana Arriaga are a dynamic sibling duo of Mexican directors and producers from Mexico City. Born into a humanistic family where storytelling and imagery were fundamental to understanding life, they were profoundly influenced by their parents. Their mother, a photographer, and their father, a writer and film director, instilled in them a deep appreciation for narrating and feeling through images. From a young age, they became obsessed with light, framing, colors, shadows, people, and stories.
Their narrative work has been chosen by the Mexican Academy of Film, the Ariel Awards, to compete in the Best Short Film category twice. Their latest film, “Upon Open Sky,” received four Ariel Award nominations and was produced in collaboration with K&S Films, the same production company behind the Oscar-nominated films “Wild Tales” and “El Clan.” The film had its world premiere at the prestigious Venice Film Festival and subsequently screened at the Toronto Film Festival, Busan Film Festival, Morelia Film Festival, Moscow International Film Festival, Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival, Havana Film Festival, Transilvania International Film Festival, Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival, Biarritz Latin American Film Festival, and many more.
Santiago and Mariana have collaborated with notable figures such as Ludovico Einaudi, Cecilia Suárez, Guillermo Arriaga, Hugo Sigman, and Camilo Lara, as well as with the rock band The Vaccines. Their commercial work includes projects for renowned brands like H&M, Dior, Prada, American Eagle, and RAM.
Their creative partnership is the cornerstone of their success, each bringing unique perspectives and strengths to their projects. Their shared vision and collaborative spirit have established them as a formidable team in the film industry, pushing the boundaries of storytelling and visual artistry.
